Bethany Witten
Bethany Witten NHCM, CPM

Bethany is a Certified Professional Midwife and New Hampshire Certified Midwife who was born and raised in southern Ontario, Canada and lives in a tiny house in Southern New Hampshire. Bethany began working towards life as a midwife in 2005. She first trained and volunteered as a doula and spent time as an intern at a busy birth center in El Paso TX before graduating from Birthwise Midwifery School. She completed her training as a student midwife here at the Birth Cottage in 2014 and stayed on as a staff member because she fell in love with the state, the women, and Eliot Witten, whom she married in June 2015.

She is proud of the friendly and accepting atmosphere at the Birth Cottage, and grateful for the team-oriented taff who share a commitment to providing client-centered care to a diversity of wonderful clients. Her primary goal, as a midwife, is to provide families with everything they need to feel respected, empowered and cared for in their experience of pregnancy, birth and parenting a newborn.

When not in the office or at a birth, Bethany can be found writing and editing for Midwifery Matters Journal, brewing herbal salves and remedies, growing organic vegetables, hiking mountains, dancing at your local contra dance and helping her husband lead groups of intrepid tweens on wilderness expeditions on the ocean and lakes of New England.

Jessica Mills
Jessica Mills, CNM, APRN

Many of you have already met Jess as she started to integrate into our group at the end of May 2015. In terms of her background, Jess has spent time as an acute care, pediatric, postpartum and nursery nurse prior to being called into midwifery. After spending time in the hospital setting, she became passionate about educating moms and empowering them to exercise more shared decision making while providing them with better continuity of care and options for out-of-hospital and home birth. She believes midwifery embodies the notion that childbirth is not just about the birth of a baby but also about the birth of a family.

Jess completed her Masters in Midwifery at Frontier Nursing University, the birthplace of nurse-midwifery education and currently ranked the #1 nurse-midwifery program in the United States by US World News and Reports. In addition to seeing our moms to be, Jess is also available for well woman, GYN care, contraception, and general womens health concerns for the women in our Birth Cottage community.

When not at the Birth Cottage, Jess can be found spending time with her husband and four children, three of whom were born right here at the Birth Cottage! She enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors with her family.
